Just days after Kieran McKenna sent shockwaves through English football by resigning to ‘take a rest’ from the game, the race for the Ipswich Town dugout is heating up, Yankee Scores reports.
There are several prominent candidates vying to become the next manager of Ipswich.
One such name is that of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the former Manchester United manager, who is currently a favorite for the job vacated by Kieran McKenna at Portman Road, per BBC Sport.
Solskjaer quit his role of a manager at Manchester United in 2021 but wanted a speedy return to coaching. He left his post as the manager of the Turkish outfit Beşiktaş last year.
He was considered as Ruben Amorim’s successor but Manchester United made a U-turn and chose Michael Carrick.
McKenna had been working as an assistant to Solskjaer at Manchester United, where he helped him finish second in the Premier League in 2020-21.
Why Gary O’Neil Also Fits the Profile
BBC Sport had revealed the interest of Ipswich in Gary O’Neil, the Strasbourg boss.
The reason for this is the long-standing admiration that the club hierarchy holds for the English manager since he played at Bristol City while Ashton served there as CEO.

The Tractor Boys are currently looking for a new head coach after the sudden resignation of the 40-year-old Kieran McKenna. The latter had announced that he had quit his job to rest a little away from the hectic world of football.
McKenna had been the manager of Ipswich since 2021 and led them to three promotions in the past four seasons, one of which had led the club to the Premier League.
“I feel this is the right time for me to step aside,” he said.
“I do so with great pride at the incredible progress we have made and with huge hope and optimism for the future of the club.”
