Giannis Antetokounmpo is moving on from Milwaukee after 13 years, two MVPs and an NBA title.
The Bucks are trading the two-time MVP and Bobby Portis to the Miami Heat in one of the most seismic moves in NBA history, ESPN’s Shams Charania reports.
The Deal
In return, Milwaukee gets Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, three first-round picks – including the No. 13 selection in Tuesday night’s NBA Draft – a 2030 first-round pick swap and a 2033 second-rounder. The first-round picks land in 2026, 2031 and 2033.

End of a Saga
It brings to a close a long and complicated saga that had the basketball world holding its breath for months. Miami and Boston emerged as the two finalists, with the Celtics reportedly throwing Jaylen Brown into their offer. In the end, Pat Riley and the Heat got their man.
What It Means for Miami
This is Miami’s most significant acquisition since LeBron James arrived in 2010. Antetokounmpo instantly teams up with franchise cornerstone Bam Adebayo to form one of the most feared defensive frontlines in the league.
The Greek Freak and Adebayo combine for 11 All-Defensive Team nods, and Antetokounmpo is a former Defensive Player of the Year.
Per ESPN, Antetokounmpo becomes eligible to sign a four-year, $275 million supermax extension on October 1, 2026. Should he reject his $62.8 million player option, he could become an unrestricted free agent in 2027.

What It Means for Milwaukee
For Milwaukee, it is a calculated reset. Herro is a 26-year-old All-Star guard who gives the Bucks an immediate scoring threat in the backcourt.
Ware offers a two-way post presence who was stuck behind Adebayo in Miami. Add in the draft capital, and the Bucks have real building blocks for their rebuild under new head coach Taylor Jenkins.
End of an Era
Antetokounmpo played 895 games in Milwaukee and holds the franchise’s all-time records for points, rebounds and blocks.
His defining moment came in 2021, when he delivered a 50-point masterclass to clinch the title. That chapter is now closed.
