Former England striker and legend, Alan Shearer has shared his thoughts on Tuchel’s performance with England at the World Cup and what should happen next for the team.
Thomas Tuchel took charge as the manager of the Three Lions on the 1st of January 2025 and also signed an extension in February that will keep him till the end of the 2028 Euros
Before the World Cup, Tuchel led the team to an unbeaten qualification campaign where they won all 8 matches without conceding a goal

This record made the English supporters confident of their chances of winning the 2026 World Cup but unfortunately they fell short against Argentina in the semifinals and the dream of making a first world cup final in 60 years disappeared into thin air
“He got things wrong with the way we retreated after scoring and his substitutions did not help. It was extremely frustrating to watch.” Shearer wrote on BBC Sport Column
Tuchel during post match interviews said he has no regrets about the game and England played one their best games under him
Shearer also wrote that “Tuchel said straight after losing the semi-final that he did nor regret his approach, but I know what it is like when I have been asked similar questions at the final whistle”
“I would not read too much into what he said then, because my guess is he will reflect and look back on the game properly in days to come”
Shearer believes Tuchel did not deliver but his time with England is not up
Attention now shifts to the Euro 2028 which England will co-host and it will be a chance to consolidate on the heartbreaking campaign the Three Lions had at the mundial.
