Houston Rockets guard Amen Thompson has signed a five-year, $208 million rookie-scale contract extension with the club.
The latest contract will have a 10% trade kicker, per sources. It represents the same portion of the Rockets’ salary cap as when the Rockets inked Alperen Sengun to a five-year, $185 million rookie contract extension in 2024.
Thompson has now extended his contract until 2032, per ESPN sources.

Thompson, 23, is a rising all-around player of the Houston Rockets since being drafted by the Rockets as their fourth pick in 2023. He played the most minutes on the floor in the NBA last year while producing career-high points per game (18.3), assists per game (5.3), and steals per game (1.5).
During the previous season, he joined the nine players who averaged 18 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. He is the youngest on the list that includes Sengun, Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic, Scottie Barnes, Jalen Johnson, Paolo Banchero, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jayson Tatum.
He played mainly at point guard during the previous season due to the absence of Fred VanVleet, but he has been able to move positions to either guard or frontcourt.
This year, Houston Rockets, who have recorded 52 wins for two consecutive seasons, have secured multi-year extensions with its young core of Thompson, Sengun, Jabari Smith Jr., and Tari Eason. Before the start of last season, Houston inked a two-year, $90 million extension with the All-NBA player Kevin Durant, who holds a player option in 2027-28.
With this new deal, he becomes the second player from the 2023 draft class to sign a rookie extension after the San Antonio Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama.
Besides him, there are several other players like Brandon Miller (Charlotte), Ausar Thompson (Detroit), Keyonte George (Utah), Cason Wallace (Oklahoma City), Jaime Jaquez Jr. (Milwaukee) and Brandin Podziemski (Golden State) who are believed to be in the rookie extension discussion list this week.
