Nickeil Alexander-Walker

Atlanta fans had been waiting to see if Nickeil Alexander‑Walker’s breakout season would be recognized. On Friday, the guard’s rise was made official with a major award, Yankee Scores reports.

Most Improved Player Recognition

Nickeil Alexander‑Walker was named the NBA’s Most Improved Player, becoming the second straight Hawk to win the honor. He averaged career highs across the board, including 20.8 points per game, while also setting franchise records in 3‑pointers made. His scoring jumped by more than 11 points compared to last season, one of the largest increases in decades.

Emotional Reaction

Speaking to reporters, Alexander‑Walker admitted the award validated years of belief and persistence. He described moments of nearly breaking down in tears, balanced by pure joy at finally being recognized for his own name rather than simply as Shai Gilgeous‑Alexander’s cousin.

Family and Team Pride

Nickeil Alexander‑Walker said he was proud to add hardware to a family already decorated by Shai’s MVP and Finals MVP honors. He also noted the significance of following teammate Dyson Daniels, who won the award last year, making Hawks history with back‑to‑back winners.

Season Impact

In his seventh season, Alexander‑Walker thrived after choosing Atlanta in free agency. When Trae Young was sidelined and later traded, he helped keep the Hawks in playoff contention. He scored in double figures in 76 games and knocked down 251 threes, ranking fourth in the league.

Looking Ahead

Alexander‑Walker credited opportunity and mindset for his success, saying he grabbed the chance “by the horns.” With his confidence soaring and his role secure, the Hawks now have another cornerstone to build around.
