The NBA has ruled on a shocking play involving LaMelo Ball and Bam Adebayo, and the fallout could reshape how fans view Tuesday night’s thriller… Yankee Scores reports.

League Says Ball Should Have Been Ejected

On Wednesday, the NBA announced that Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball should have been ejected for a flagrant foul penalty two after grabbing Miami Heat star Bam Adebayo’s ankle. The incident, which occurred in the second quarter of the play-in game, left Adebayo with a back injury and forced him out of the contest.

The league described Ball’s actions as “unnecessary and reckless contact.” While Miami lost 127-126 in overtime, the ruling confirmed that if the foul had been called in real time, the Heat would have received two free throws and possession.

Spoelstra Calls Out Officials

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra did not hold back after the game. “I don’t think that belongs in the game, tripping guys, shenanigans,” Spoelstra said. He questioned how referees Zach Zarba, Curtis Blair, and Gediminas Petraitis all missed the play. “Somebody’s got to see that. He should have been thrown out of the game for that.”

Because no foul was called, Miami had no opportunity to challenge or trigger a replay review. Crew chief Zarba explained: “The play wasn’t whistled in real time… the window to review the play was closed.”

Fines and Fallout

Ball was fined $35,000 for the foul and another $25,000 for profanity used in a postgame interview, totaling $60,000. Despite the penalties, he remains eligible to play in Charlotte’s elimination game against Orlando on Friday.

The controversy deepens when considering history: in January 2024, Ball had a similar incident with Adebayo, grabbing at his leg during a game in Miami. That time, Adebayo stumbled but stayed in the game.

What’s Next?

The ruling has reignited debate about officiating consistency and player safety. With Miami’s season over and Charlotte moving forward, fans are left wondering how different the outcome might have been if the foul had been called correctly.
