The San Antonio Spurs have produced icons that shaped basketball history. But when ranking the greatest ever, one debate always arises: is it Popovich or Duncan? Yankee Scores reports.

Let’s begin with the honorable mentions. Tony Parker, Manu Ginóbili, and Kawhi Leonard all left indelible marks on the Spurs dynasty. Their championships and clutch performances cemented San Antonio’s reputation as a model franchise. Yet, they fall just short of the Mount Rushmore reserved for the absolute greatest. But despite that, they are legends of the game and of the San Antonio Spurs.

Gregg Popovich

Popovich guided the Spurs for nearly three decades, winning five championships and earning three Coach of the Year awards. His leadership transformed San Antonio into a perennial contender, and his Hall of Fame induction confirmed his place among the NBA’s coaching elite. An absolute great in Spurs history.

George Gervin

Before the dynasty years, George Gervin, a man a lot of youngsters are not familiar with, “The Iceman” carried the Spurs into NBA relevance. Gervin led the league in scoring four times and finished top‑five in MVP voting across four straight seasons. His smooth style and scoring dominance made him the franchise’s first true superstar.

David Robinson

“The Admiral” brought power and consistency from the late ’80s through the early 2000s.  In his first year in the league, he was crowned the Rookie of the Year, he won Defensive Player of the Year in 1992, and MVP honors in 1995, amongst all other NBA accolades. Robinson delivered the Spurs’ first championship in 1999, paving the way for the next legend.

Tim Duncan

“The Big Fundamental” stands atop the list. With five titles, two MVPs, and three Finals MVPs, Duncan defined and owned the Spurs’ dynasty. His quiet dominance and relentless consistency made him the ultimate franchise cornerstone, embodying San Antonio’s culture of excellence.

The Legacy

From Gervin’s scoring flair to Duncan’s steady greatness, and Popovich’s unmatched leadership, the Spurs’ history is filled with icons. As Victor Wembanyama begins his journey, fans wonder if he will one day join this elite company.
