According to sources, Free-agent guard Tyus Jones has agreed to sign with the Denver Nuggets after leaving the Dallas Mavericks.

His agent, Kevin Bradbury of LIFT Sports Management, said Jones will earn $877,209. His cap hit will stand at $554,273.

Jones played only eight games for Dallas before the team waived him in February. The move to Denver marks his sixth team in four seasons.

Why Dallas Made the Move

Jones posted a 6.0 assist-to-turnover ratio during his time in Dallas. That ranked third in the league over that stretch.

Despite his efficiency, the Mavericks waived him to create roster space for Ryan Nembhard. The decision also honored Jones’ request to join a playoff contender.

Denver Adds Depth for Playoff Push

Denver moved quickly to secure the 29-year-old guard. Now in his 11th NBA season, Jones signed a prorated veteran’s minimum contract for the rest of the campaign.

The signing brings Denver’s roster to the full 15-player limit. Jones will provide experienced cover behind All-Star guard Jamal Murray.

He should help steady a bench unit that has struggled to support Nikola Jokić and Murray.

Injury Concerns Increase His Importance

Denver continues to deal with injuries. Aaron Gordon and Peyton Watson remain sidelined. Spencer Jones is also out. These absences have stretched the rotation.

Jones brings valuable playoff experience. He has served as a reliable backup on postseason teams with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Memphis Grizzlies, and Phoenix Suns.

A Season Below His Usual Standards

Jones is averaging career lows this season. He is posting 3.1 points per game, shooting 34.9% from the field, and 28.1% from three-point range.

Still, Denver hopes his decision-making and experience will outweigh those struggles as the postseason approaches.
