Despite stadium officials dreaming of Josua – Fury heavyweight mega-fight in Dublin, promoter Eddie Hearn is heading to Croke Park this Friday with a very different—and singular—agenda. Yankee Scores reports
Eddie Hearn says that a heavyweight fight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua “is not going to happen at Croke Park.”
A different kind of history
He also said that he will meet with people in Dublin on Friday to make sure that Katie Taylor’s last fight is held there.
Peter McKenna, the head of Croke Park stadium, had said last week that a long-awaited fight for Taylor would take place at the 82,000-seat home of Gaelic games, together with Tyson Fury.
After being out for 15 months, “The Gipsy King” returned to the ring on Saturday and beat Arslanbek Makhmudov by points. He then called for a fight with long-time rival Joshua, who was at ringside.
The Demand for a Solo Headline
Hearn is the promoter of Joshua and Taylor. He says that even though no contracts have been signed, the two may fight later this year. However, it won’t be in Dublin.
Hearn says that Taylor should be the main event at any big night at Croke Park.
Katie Taylor Only
“There is nothing else on the agenda apart from Katie Taylor,” Hearn said on Matchroom Boxing’s social media channel.
“Anthony Joshua against Tyson Fury, for me, is not going to happen at Croke Park.
“Katie Taylor is not fighting on any undercard. If there is a fight at Croke Park, it should be Katie Taylor and Katie Taylor only.
“That is the whole story; that is the history. The legacy and nothing short of what she deserves, so on Friday, we will be at Croke Park to try and advance those talks.”
