The Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes have set new records again.
Kansas City officially restructured Mahomes’ contract on Wednesday. This adds two years to his existing deal and makes him the first player in NFL history to sign a contract worth over half a billion dollars, Yankee scores reports.
The new agreement is worth $504.75 million and keeps Mahomes in Kansas City through the 2033 season, when he will be 38 years old.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport, the deal includes $239.05 million in new money, with the first four years fully guaranteed at signing. Starting in 2027, Mahomes will average $64 million per year. This amount exceeds Dak Prescott’s $60 million average annual value and sets a new NFL record for annual value.

“This is a landmark deal for a once-in-a-lifetime player,” General Manager Brett Veach said in a statement.
This marks the third time in six years that Kansas City has reset the quarterback market with Mahomes. Since 2022, the Chiefs have committed a total of $689.05 million in new money to their franchise quarterback.
The timing is notable because Mahomes is still recovering from a torn ACL and LCL injury he suffered in December during a Week 15 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. It is unclear if he will be available for Week 1, when Kansas City hosts Denver.
However, recent reports indicate he is on track for a return in the season opener.
The organization clearly shows no concern. This deal signifies confidence as much as it is a contract, demonstrating that the Chiefs are betting on their dynasty lasting well into the next decade, injury or not.
