The Los Angeles Rams have acquired All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie from the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a package of draft picks, including the No. 29 overall selection in the 2026 NFL Draft, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The deal also sends a fifth- and sixth-round pick in 2026 and a third-rounder in 2027 to Kansas City.

This confirmation follows earlier speculation reported by Schefter, who noted that the Rams were actively exploring ways to add an elite cornerback.

McDuffie Expected to Sign Extension

McDuffie, 25, is entering the final season of his rookie contract. The Chiefs exercised his fifth-year option in April, guaranteeing him $13.6 million for 2026. According to Schefter, the Rams plan to work on a long-term extension to keep McDuffie in Los Angeles for years to come.

Cornerback was a top priority for the Rams heading into free agency and the draft, with four pending free agents at the position. General manager Les Snead hinted at the combine that the team was evaluating whether an “All-Pro” could be added to the roster.

McDuffie, a Southern California native, fits that description perfectly. He played his senior year at St. John Bosco High School and later at the University of Washington under current Rams defensive backs coach Jimmy Lake.

Chiefs Gain Draft Capital

For Kansas City, the trade provides valuable draft assets. General manager Brett Veach has consistently used draft capital to sustain the Chiefs’ championship window. McDuffie was originally part of the pivotal 2022 draft class, which also produced George Karlaftis, Isiah Pacheco, Bryan Cook, Leo Chenal, and Jaylen Watson.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes reacted to the trade on social media with a simple “damn,” reflecting the impact of losing one of the team’s top defenders.
