GP3 has officially signed his 2026 franchise tag

The speculation is finally over in Dallas. Wide receiver George Pickens has put pen to paper, but the real story is what this move signals for the Cowboys heading into the 2026 season. Yankee Scores reports.

The Franchise Tag Drama Ends

After weeks of rumors and trade chatter, Pickens has finally signed his franchise tender on Wednesday. For Cowboys fans, the signing ends a tense chapter that had threatened to overshadow draft weekend.

Before the 2026 NFL Draft, there were reports that Pickens planned to sign the franchise tag, and this brought back speculations about a potential move.
By signing the franchise tag, Pickens is guaranteed at least $27.3  millions for the 2026 NFL season. Now that Pickens has signed the tender, he can report for offseason program.

What It Means for Dallas

Pickens’ decision locks him in for 2026, but it also raises questions about the future. The Cowboys insist they have no plans to trade him, and team executives have made clear he will play under the tag. The 25-year-old wide receiver finished eighth in the league with 93 catches, 1429 receiving yards and 9 touchdowns, all career highs for the gentleman.

The Long-Term Picture

Stephen Jones and Jerry Jones have both hinted at long‑term plans for Pickens, but for now, the franchise tag is the bridge. “We have no intention of moving George,” said Jones during the draft.

During the annual league meetings, Jones further explained,  “Make no mistake about it, we have long-term plans in mind for Pickens.”

What’s Next

Pickens will join Dak Prescott and the rest of the offense in the offseason program, with training camp looming as the next test. Cowboys Nation will watch closely to see if this signing is a step toward stability or the beginning of another contract saga.
