The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are entering a new era, and one of their young stars made sure to honor a franchise legend on his way out. Emeka Egbuka shared a classy message about Mike Evans, who left Tampa Bay for the San Francisco 49ers this offseason. Yankee Scores reports.
Evans’ Departure Leaves a Void
Evans, 32, chose San Francisco over Tampa despite the Buccaneers offering more money to keep him. His résumé speaks for itself: 11 straight 1,000‑yard seasons, tying Jerry Rice’s record, a Super Bowl ring, and a place among the greatest receivers in franchise history. His decision to sign a three‑year, $42.4 million deal with the 49ers marks the end of an iconic chapter in Tampa.
Egbuka’s Message of Respect
Second‑year wideout Emeka Egbuka, who spent one season alongside Evans, spoke warmly about his former teammate. “We’re really close,” Egbuka said. “I’m just really happy for him that he found a home that he feels confident and comfortable in. He’s going to continue to do good things. We’re just all so proud of him, there’s no hard feelings or anything like that. Everyone loves him at the Bucs.”

Buccaneers Reset for 2026
General manager Jason Licht acknowledged the difficulty of losing Evans but emphasized the team’s strong receiver room. “To see Mike leave, it was tough, but I think everybody just realized we have to reset, we have to move forward.”
With Evans gone, Egbuka is expected to step into a larger role after a promising rookie season that included 938 yards and six touchdowns. He’s ready for the challenge, saying he’ll execute whenever his number is called, whether catching passes or blocking.
Looking Ahead
The Buccaneers will also lean on rookie Ted Hurst to contribute, but replacing Evans outright is impossible.
