Defensive player Jamal Adams has reached an agreement with the Minnesota Vikings before the start of training camp, Yankee Scores reports.
He is joining an already interesting roster under an innovative defensive coordinator in Brian Flores.
Adams, 30, revealed the deal in a Monday night post on X, writing “Year 10,” complete with a “#skol” hashtag, which has been a staple among his new team’s fans. ESPN reported the news on Tuesday afternoon.
General Manager Nolan Teasley of the Vikings was a part of the front office that acquired Adams in a megadeal from the New York Jets to the Seattle Seahawks ahead of the 2020 campaign. While the Vikings were waiting on their longtime safety, Harrison Smith, who might choose to retire, Adams had been playing at linebacker position in his later years.
Playing for the Las Vegas Raiders last year, Adams played all 448 of his defensive snaps at linebacker, per ESPN.
In Minnesota, Flores has shown a knack for creative lineups and has used three safeties on the field at one point while having Josh Metellus be the edge rusher, linebacker, and defensive back all together at different times.
Adams can be helpful for depth issues if Smith does not come back, but injuries have been a problem for the veteran player recently and he has not started every game since 2023.
However, Adams has always been good at blitzing and has tallied 22.5 sacks in his career, 16 of which came in two seasons of 2019 and 2020.
