Liverpool have named Andoni Iraola as head coach on a two-year contract, Yankee Scores reports…
A Stunning Managerial Succession
The club confirmed Arne Slot’s departure last Saturday just a year after winning the Premier League title.
Iraola, 43, comes from Bournemouth where he made this his best season yet with a sixth-place finish, translating to Europa League football for the Cherries. They were three points behind Liverpool in fifth, respectively.
The Ultimate Upgrade
Back in April, Iraola had said he would be leaving Bournemouth when summer came. People thought he might land a job at Crystal Palace or AC Milan instead, but a Liverpool offer was an upgrade that cannot be rejected by the Spaniard.
Iraola is expected to return Liverpool to an aggressive and front-footed attacking side.
“Ready For The Challenge”
“Really excited, really excited,” said Iraola. “Because obviously you know about Liverpool, you know that it’s a big club, a massive club, one of the biggest in the world.
“You don’t need a lot of things to get attracted by Liverpool. Liverpool is Liverpool.”
“I think Liverpool gives me the chance to coach top players, and top players give you the chance to fight for titles. To win titles.
“Obviously when you arrive at a place, you cannot promise everything. You cannot promise. But it’s true that I understand where I’m coming and what is expected.
“I’m ready for the challenge.”
Assembling the Backroom Staff
Iraola is likely to have Tommy Elphick and Shaun Cooper who were his assistants at Bournemouth, at Anfield as part of his coaching staff.
