Barcelona are on the verge of finalizing Karim Adeyemi’s signing after a successful negotiation with Borussia Dortmund, Yankee Scores reports.
Barça’s first offer for the versatile Germany forward was about €20 million ($22.8m).
Dortmund turned that down, but the two clubs are now finalising a deal that will be worth an initial €22m ($25m) plus another €7m ($7.9m) in possible add-ons.
The Bundesliga club will also be owed a percentage of any profit Barca make from any future sale.
Barça expect to wrap up the deal in the coming days with Adeyemi set to become the Spanish champions’ second signing of the summer after England winger Anthony Gordon arrived from Newcastle United in a €70m ($78m) deal.
The signings of Adeyemi and Gordon are not related to Barça’s pursuit of a No. 9, with the club still keen on signing Atlético Madrid’s Julián Álvarez to replace the outgoing Robert Lewandowski, sources told ESPN.
Barça have already agreed a deal for Gordon and are now working on their efforts to sign Adeyemi and Álvarez.
The three players potentially coming in would add to an attack that already has Lamine Yamal, Raphinha and Torres.
Adeyemi is a versatile player who can play across all three attacking positions.
He made his name at Red Bull Salzburg before joining Dortmund in 2022, where he has spent the last four seasons.
He has scored 36 times in 146 appearances for the German side, including 10 in 39 appearances in all competitions last season.
Barça coach Hansi Flick had worked with Adeyemi before, giving the attacker his Germany debut when he was in charge of the national team.
The 24-year-old is arriving at the club as part of an attacking overhaul requested by Flick.
