Brazil meets Norway in an exciting round of 16 matchup on Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. This game features two of the most electric attackers in the tournament in Vinicius Junior and Erling Haaland.
How This Clash Came To Be
Carlo Ancelotti’s side finished top of Group C after victories against Scotland and Haiti and a draw with Morocco before they survived a scare in the round of 32 when they came from behind to beat Japan 2-1 thanks to a stoppage-time winner from Gabriel Martinelli.
Norway were second in Group I, beating Iraq and Senegal but losing to France and needing a late Haaland goal to beat Ivory Coast 2-1 in the last 32, which was the nation’s first knockout win at a World Cup.

Haaland Against Vinicius
Haaland has been nothing short of dominant, scoring five of Norway’s 10 goals in the tournament.
Brazil will look to center-back Gabriel Magalhaes to try and shut him down but the Manchester City striker has won that battle before at club level.
On the other side, Vinicius has been Brazil’s most dangerous weapon with four goals, becoming the first Brazilian since Ronaldo and Rivaldo in 2002 to score in all three group-stage matches in a World Cup.

A Strange History
Interestingly, according to Al-Jazeera, Brazil has never beaten Norway in four all-time meetings, including a memorable 2-1 victory in the group stage of the 1998 World Cup.
Since a 2006 friendly that ended in a draw, the two sides have not met.
The Stakes
The winner will go on to play either Mexico or England in the quarterfinals in Miami on July 11, keeping Brazil’s bid for a ninth straight quarterfinal appearance and Norway’s hopes of reaching the last eight for the first time in history.
