Now that he’s officially left Barcelona, Chicago Fire are trying to bring ‘Lewy’ to the Windy City to link up with an already lethal attack, Yankee Scores reports…
The head coach of Chicago Fire FC and former United States national team manager, Gregg Berhalter has confirmed the MLS outfit’s interest in signing Robert Lewandowski.
A deal in Principle?
Berhalter said Chicago has contacted Lewandowski’s agents in what appears to be a deal in principle.
“I can speak freely because he is no longer a Barcelona player, or will soon cease to be, and he is someone we want to bring in,”
“We have spoken with Robert Lewandowski and with the people who represent him. I am convinced that a player of his level has other offers on the table, but our communication has been frequent and very positive,” Berhalter added.
Talks Are Ongoing
According to multiple sources, talks have been held between both parties since December.
“We believe it would be an extraordinary signing for the club, for Chicago, and for the entire league. A player of his caliber would elevate our project to another level, “he stated.
The manager believes that Lewandowski would bolster the squad particularly the attack.
“We have a top-level offensive team, but bringing in a footballer of his experience, leadership, and goalscoring ability can only make us stronger,” he added.
Other Top Clubs Are Interested
In addition, there is buzz around the striker’s career in other leagues. Speculations in the British media suggest that the player may attract the attention of Manchester United, while various Saudi Arabian teams are ready to offer big sums for him.
His next club may be known after the 2026 World Cup.
