Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Andrey Santos from Chelsea. It is Michael Carrick’s first permanent addition since taking charge at Old Trafford.
The deal is worth £50m, comprising a guaranteed £48m with a further £2m in add-ons, while Chelsea also have a 10 per cent sell-on clause included.

The 22-year-old is United’s answer to their long-standing midfield crisis following the departure of Casemiro and inconsistency of Manuel Ugarte. Santos joined Chelsea from Vasco da Gama in 2023 and made 43 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring three goals and providing four assists, according to Sky Sports
Santos has been of interest to United for more than a year; the team has previously attempted to include him in discussions regarding Alejandro Garnacho’s transfer to Chelsea. That was rebuffed, but United was patient, holding further talks with his reps earlier in the year before finally striking a deal this summer.

Santos passed his medical without any problem and signed his contract before the club announced it. United are not stopping there with Youri Tielemans set for medicals on Tuesday and will immediately be announced after.
