Warren Madrigal of Nashville SC is one of the ejected three players from the Costa Rica squad on account of indiscipline before their respective matches against Colombia and England, Yankee Scores reports…
A Camp Plunged Into Crisis
Other players affected are Kenneth Vargas and Alejandro Bran of LD Alajuelense.
The trio would not feature in the friendlies between Costa Rica and Colombia scheduled for June 1 in Bogotá and against England on June 10 in Orlando.
Shooting Incident
Police in the area are investigating the reported gun shooting where Bran’s vehicle sustained damage from shots fired at it following a melee after midnight near a pub in Los Yoses area of San José.
While the FCRF did not mention the shooting directly, it was made clear in its statement about withdrawing Bran from the upcoming friendlies that “the necessary conditions for his continued participation with the team are not fulfilled.”
FCRF Statement
A few hours later, FCRF released yet another statement in which it withdrew Vargas and Madrigal from the ongoing camp.
“This decision follows established guidelines for all members of the national teams,” the statement said.
“The FCRF reiterates that discipline and respect for the rules are fundamental pillars for all our national teams. These values are an essential part of the responsibility that comes with representing the country.”
The club LD Alajuelense has also acted against Bran and Vargas, who play on loan at the club from Hearts until December 31.
“Liga Deportiva Alajuelense informs that, after an exhaustive analysis of recent events and in strict adherence to the principles that govern our institution, it has made the decision to immediately separate players Alejandro Bran and Kenneth Vargas from the organization,” a club statement said.
Costa Rica did not make the cut for the 2026 World Cup. They named their coach for the national side Fernando Batista in March and signed him till the 2030 World Cup.
