Lamine Yamal and Raphinha celebrating in Barcelona win over Newcastle

Barcelona delivered a ruthless Champions League performance at the Nou Camp, leaving Newcastle United stunned and eliminated from the competition. Yankee Scores reports.

The Spanish giants, inspired by a talismanic display from Raphinha, turned a tense first half into a devastating second-half masterclass, sealing an emphatic victory that underlined their European credentials.

First-Half Drama: Newcastle Fight Back Twice

Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe had urged his side to embrace the Nou Camp atmosphere, and for 45 minutes they did just that. Despite Raphinha’s early strike and Marc Bernal’s finish, the visitors twice equalised through Anthony Elanga, who showed sharp instincts at the back post.

However, the turning point came in stoppage time when VAR intervened. Kieran Trippier was penalised for pulling Raphinha, and 18-year-old Lamine Yamal calmly converted from the spot to restore Barcelona’s lead.

Second-Half Collapse: Barca Run Riot

After the break, Newcastle’s defensive frailties were brutally exposed. Fermin Lopez made it 4-2 following Raphinha’s exquisite pass, before Robert Lewandowski struck twice in quick succession — a header from a corner and a drilled finish.

Raphinha then capped his man-of-the-match performance with a late goal, punishing Jacob Ramsey’s misplaced pass to complete a 7-2 win on the night and 8-3 on aggregate.

Barcelona’s dominance was so complete that fans inside the refurbished Nou Camp began a Mexican wave — a rare sight in a knockout tie.

Newcastle’s Painful Lesson

For Howe’s men, this was a tale of two halves. They showed spirit before the interval but crumbled under pressure in the second. Costly slips, poor marking, and lapses in concentration left them exposed against a side of Barcelona’s calibre.

As Howe reflected, his team will “learn a lot from this chastening experience.” Despite the bruising exit, Newcastle can take pride in reaching the last 16 for only the second time in their history.

What’s Next?

Barcelona now await either Atletico Madrid or Tottenham Hotspur in the quarter-finals, while Newcastle must regroup quickly ahead of a fiery Tyne-Wear derby against Sunderland at St James’ Park.

With Raphinha in red-hot form and Lewandowski rediscovering his scoring touch, Barcelona look every bit like contenders for European glory.
