For the very first time in Spain’s history, no Spanish Real Madrid player would feature in the World Cup, Yankee Scores reports.
Spain will play no Real Madrid players at the World Cup. It is the first time in 92 years of competing at the soccer tournament that Spain’s 26-man squad does not feature a single member of the La Liga side.
Real Madrid boasts of 11 Spanish players, only 4 boasts of regular football. Dean Huijsen, despite playing 40 times this season following his move from Bournemouth. Alvaro Carreras, on the other hand, had an underwhelming season, playing only 39 games this season.
Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya and midfielders Martin Zubimendi and Mikel Merino, Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella, Tottenham’s Pedro Porro, Man City midfielder Rodri and Crystal Palace forward Yeremy Pino have all been selected.
