Kate O’Connor of Northern Ireland made a remarkable performance at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, claiming gold in the women’s heptathlon to cement another important triumph in her fast-rising career.

O’Connor had churned off a succession of good performances throughout the competition and headed into the last event, the 800 metres, in a commanding position.
She had put her stamp on the contest earlier in the day with a Commonwealth Games heptathlon best of 52.85m in the javelin.
The throw came on the back of a fantastic opening day in which she won the 200m and also set a new outdoor personal best of 6.37m in the long jump to cement her grip on the gold medal.
Per BBC, The 24-year-old had sat on 5,611 points after six events with a 258-point lead over England’s Jade O’Dowda going into the 800m.
In the end she managed to hold on to win the Commonwealth crown, capping a spectacular campaign in Glasgow.
The win is another major milestone for O’Connor in his career.
She is an experienced multi-event performer – she picked up global indoor bronze in the pentathlon and Commonwealth silver four years ago
This is the latest step in a career which keeps gathering pace, with her results in Glasgow confirms her place as one of the world’s premier multi-event athletes.
