Cade Mays is having a tough start to his debut season in Detroit as the Lions center injured his wrist in training camp

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, head coach Dan Campbell said he will be sidelined for what he called “a significant” amount of time.
The timing is painful for the team as Detroit went out this off-season and signed Mays to a 3 year, $25 million deal just to strengthen the middle of their offensive line.
Now, just weeks before the regular season, they’re already having to figure out life without him.
The only good news is that the injury is not believed to be season-ending, meaning Mays should be back on the field at some point during 2026
Without Mays, the Lions will likely turn to Michael Niese, a third-year player who is just below Mays on the depth chart. While Mays recovers, Niese will try to grab the first chance at holding onto the center spot.
More information on Mays’ rehabilitation timeframe will be released as the Lions progress through training camp.
