He last played in 2024. Gilmore posted a video on Instagram on Thursday that showed highlights from his career. At the end, he wrote, “The game ends here, but the journey continues.”

“To my first love, Football — As a young, scrappy kid from Rock Hill, South Carolina, with humble beginnings, the eldest of 6 — you gave me focus, opportunity, strength, and friends to last a lifetime,” Gilmore said in the post. “From my first game with Finley Road Falcons to two Super Bowls, multiple Pro Bowls, and a Defensive Player of the Year Award, you taught me the invaluable lesson of working hard and believing in myself.”
Stephon Gilmore also thanked his parents for “raising me to be the man I am today” and his wife and kids for “making it possible for me to chase my dreams.”
Pedigree
Gilmore, who is 35 years old, was the league’s best defensive player in 2019 and had six interceptions, which was the most in the league. He also made the All-Pro team in 2018, the year the Patriots won the Super Bowl.
During his 13-year career, he played for the Buffalo Bills (2012–16), the New England Patriots (2017–20), the Carolina Panthers (2021), the Indianapolis Colts (2022), the Dallas Cowboys (2023), and the Minnesota Vikings (2024).
The Buffalo Bills signed Gilmore to a four–year, $12.08 million rookie contract that is fully guaranteed and also includes a signing bonus of $7.22 million with a fifth-year option.
