New Washington Wizards signing Trae Young was ejected from his side’s 123–118 loss to the Houston Rockets after he left the bench to complain to an official.

The incident occurred as referees were sorting out a heated confrontation between Tari Eason of the Houston Rockets and Washington Wizards’ Jamir Watkins, with Eason also being ejected.

Speaking to fans via X after the ejection, Trae wrote: “Don’t expect me to get ejected too many more times, D.C., but I’m definitely bringing that energy and competitiveness when I’m back for my brothers!”

Young was traded to the Wizards on January 9 for Corey Kispert and C.J. McCollum, with a trade exception included in the deal for the Atlanta Hawks.

However, the 27-year-old has yet to make his debut, as he has been dealing with knee and quadriceps injuries since the start of the season.

According to Washington Wizards head coach Brian Keefe, Young is leaning toward making his first appearance against the Utah Jazz on Thursday. Young also hinted at a near return with an Instagram post: “3/5.”

Trae Young was only able to play 10 games for the Hawks, averaging 19.3 points and 8.9 assists per game.

He has emerged as a prolific scorer since making his NBA debut during the 2018–19 season, averaging 25.2 points and 9.8 assists over his career.

Young was awarded the Assist Champion Award after the 2024–25 season, having led the league with 880 total assists and the highest assists per game average.

The four-time All-Star point guard, however, hasn’t played since December 27, when he was still with the Hawks.
