Contractual agreement
The former Manchester United captain Harry Maguire signed a new one-year contract with Manchester United with an additional option to renew for another year.
At the age of 33, the English defender signed a new contract to stay at Manchester United until at least next summer. Reportedly, Maguire decided to take a pay cut to sign this contract.
The player signed a contract with Manchester United for £80m, becoming the most expensive defender in the history of football. During his tenure with Manchester United, the defender made 266 matches for Manchester United and won the League Cup in the 2022/2023 season and the FA Cup the following season.
Maguire’s statement about the deal
“I am truly honored to represent such a club as Manchester United. This is an honor and a great responsibility, which brings me and my family pride every day,” Maguire said in an official statement.
“I can see a lot of ambition and potential in our squad. There is a clear determination in this club to win many trophies. I believe we will have more successful moments with this team,” Maguire stated.

Mixed Fortune
During his stay with the club, Maguire had mixed fortunes. Five months after joining the club, Maguire became the captain of the club, but there were some criticisms of the player despite him playing regularly under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his successor Ralf Rangnick.
Moreover, in April 2022, there was a bomb threat in Maguire’s house, and Cheshire Police carried out an investigation of the area surrounding his house.
Under Erik ten Hag, the player’s status at the club deteriorated, resulting in the removal of Maguire’s captaincy role in July 2023. There were some talks of moving the player to West Ham, but the player preferred staying at Manchester United. Under Ruben Amorim, Maguire had some difficulties, but there was a renaissance of his career under Michael Carrick, and he started every match since then.
Contribution to team
Manchester United director of football Jason Wilcox said, “Harry Maguire personifies the mindset of what is required to perform for Manchester United. He is a professional player who adds a lot of experience to our young team.”
