The Wembanyama-led Spurs are showing why they are the team to beat in the West. Yankee Scores breaks down the historic comeback and the health of Stephon Castle ahead of Tuesday’s potential closeout.

Victor Wembanyama scored 27 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked seven shots in his first game back from a concussion and the San Antonio Spurs led the Portland Trail Blazers 3-1 in their first-round series with a 114-93 win on Sunday.

The “Wemby Effect”

The Spurs’ De’Aaron Fox scored 28 points and the team will host Game 5 on Tuesday.

Wembanyama, the 7-foot-4 Defensive Player of the Year, was cleared to play after passing the league’s concussion protocol about an hour before the game, the Spurs announced.

From 17 Down to a 21-Point Blowout

The Spurs were down 17 points at halftime, but the game was tied at 74 in the fourth quarter. Fox and Keldon Johnson made consecutive 3-pointers to give the Spurs a 90-77 lead with 7:14 remaining.

With 4:31 left, Johnson dunked to put the Spurs up 101-81 and that secured the victory.

There was tense moment with 2:13 left when Avdija and Stephon Castle exchanged shoves. They were given offsetting technical fouls.

Wembanyama suffered a concussion in the first half of San Antonio’s 106-103 defeat on Tuesday and was out for Game 3 on Friday night. But the Spurs surged in the third quarter and prevailed 120-108 to take a series lead.

Wembanyama, who was questionable for Game 4, played and drew a crowd roar at the Moda Center with a forceful dunk with 9:58 left in the first half.

Blazers Half-time Surge

The Trail Blazers led 45-28 at half-time after an 18-3 run. Robert Williams III dunked before two consecutive 3-pointers by Jerami Grant and Scoot Henderson. Avdija finished the run with a fadeaway jumper.

The Blazers led by as many as 19 points in the half and led 58-41 at halftime.

Castle, who scored 33 points in San Antonio’s Game 3 victory, appeared to have a left hand injury in the first half but played through the pain.

The Spurs scored 13 unanswered points to start the second half and led 58-54 with the Blazers shooting poorly. Devin Vassell’s jumper with 4:38 tied it at 62 for the Spurs. He hit another to put San Antonio in front.
