Inter Miami and Philadelphia just played a 10-goal thriller for the history books, but the talking point is not the thriller but Messi’s injury scare, Yankee Scores reports…
Lionel Messi got injured in Inter Miami’s 6-4 win over Philadelphia Union at Nu Stadium on Sunday.
The Messi Injury Scare
The Argentine left the pitch in the 73rd minute to the dressing room, holding his left thigh.
Messi felt some discomfort in the upper part of his left thigh in the 70th minute after taking a free-kick. He requested to be replaced and Mateo Silvetti was subbed on.
Messi walked off on his own.
“As far as I know, we don’t have a report on that yet, but he really was fatigued. It was fatigue,” Miami coach Guillermo Hoyos said after the game. “Yes, it was fatigue. He was tired, the field was heavy, and rather than doubt, you always say not to take the risk.”
Hoyos stated that he had not yet talked with Messi following the game.
The uncommonly early substitution of the Miami star and a victory along with the record eight goals scored in the first half time became the topic of discussion.
A First-Half Goal Avalanche
Philadelphia opened the game in a good way by scoring two goals in the first ten minutes thanks to Milan Iloski – one from open play and the other from the spot kick.
Germán Berterame halved the deficit after converting Messi’s teasing cross.
Philadelphia restored a two-goal cushion through Bruno Damiani. Suarez made it 3-2 for Miami, then Berterame completed his brace, levelling at 3-3. Suárez put Miami into a 4-3 lead a minute to the end of the first interval.

The World Cup Break
For now, there will be a break due to the World Cup until July when all the teams will return to action. Currently, Miami is sitting on the second spot in the Eastern Conference with 31 points, one more than Nashville.
At the moment, Argentina hasn’t announced the list of players who will go to the upcoming tournament where Messi is likely to compete as a part of the reigning champion team.
Their opening match in Group J is against Algeria on June 16th.
