The New York Knicks have extended their Finals lead to 2-0 and just two wins from their first NBA championship in 53 years, Yankee Scores reports.
Brunson made his game-winning free throw with 9.5 seconds to go following Wembanyama’s turn-over and after that, he missed a shot at the end of the New York Knicks victory against the San Antonio Spurs by 105-104. With this win, they have taken 2-0 lead in NBA Finals on Friday night. This is the first 2-0 lead for the team in NBA finals.

“What a ballgame,” Knicks coach Mike Brown marveled.
Karl Anthony-Towns added 21 points and 13 rebounds, with Brunson and Mikal Bridges scoring 20 each for the Knicks, who are unbeaten in their last 13 games. It is the second-longest playoff win streak in NBA history as per ESPN.

“New York City showed up,” Towns said. “The fans showed up. The energy showed up. And we found a way to get it done.”
The Knicks are only the third team that managed to win the first two games of the NBA Finals away from home, following Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls in 1993 and Hakeem Olajuwon’s Houston Rockets in 1995.
Both teams managed to lift the title, the Bulls defeating the Phoenix Suns in six games while the Rockets went home following the sweep of Orlando. The Knicks, who have not won the title since 1973, stand poised to join them.
Wembanyama added 29 points, after being quite quiet in the first half, while De’Aaron Fox scored 20 points for San Antonio.
“We can’t change the past,” Wembanyama said. “We’re already thinking about Game 3.”
The playoff series moves to New York this time around. The third game will take place at Madison Square Garden on Monday evening.
Tickets for Game 3 on the secondary market, even for the cheapest tickets at MSG, had surpassed $11,000 each by Friday night, and apparently, Knicks fans do not mind paying the premium price just to see their team compete in a game that could clinch their first NBA title in 53 years.
The Spurs were trailing by 14 points halfway into the fourth quarter but managed to come all the way back and evened the score, scoring the next 14 points of the game. Finally, Wembanyama put the Spurs ahead 104-102 with a three-point play at the 57-second mark.
“We showed tremendous desperation, urgency and competitive response,” Spurs coach Mitch Johnson said. “Hopefully we can try to bottle that up … and try to play to that same level.”
Brunson’s Heroics Continue
However, it was Brunson, the man who singlehandedly kept the Knicks alive in Game 1 of the series, who scored all three of those points to seal the deal for his team.

Brunson scored on the next possession and did so with only his seventh bucket in 24 tries, tying the game up in the process. Wembanyama missed a deep jump shot, Anunoby grabbed the rebound for the Knicks with under 30 seconds left, New York called timeout, and here we were.
The Spurs stopped the opposition on defense, but Wembanyama turned the ball over to New York. Brunson was sent to the free-throw line after being fouled, and the Knicks were leading again. Before long, Spurs fans started leaving AT&T Center – perhaps to never return this season.
The Spurs called timeout with 7.5 seconds left on the clock. Fox made a quick pass to Wembanyama, who tried to win the game for his team with a jump shot, but that too was unsuccessful.
