Lewis Hamilton silenced the doubters in impressive fashion on Sunday. He claimed his first Grand Prix victory for Ferrari at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, Yankee Scores reports.
Hamilton finished ahead of George Russell and Lando Norris in a thrilling race, ending Mercedes’ six-race winning streak in 2026. This marked Hamilton’s seventh win at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and his 106th Grand Prix victory overall. He moved further ahead of Michael Schumacher in the all-time record books.

Ferrari’s Strategic Masterclass
The key to the victory was a smart three-stop strategy from the Ferrari pit wall. Hamilton’s three-stop plan clearly outperformed the two-stop strategy of both Mercedes drivers. A Virtual Safety Car, triggered by Fernando Alonso’s Aston Martin failure on lap 40, aided their strategy. Ferrari went aggressive early, pitting Hamilton on Lap 12 to force Mercedes to react, and then again on Lap 28 to overtake Russell before the VSC gave them a free third stop.
Antonelli’s Nightmare Retirement
Championship leader Kimi Antonelli retired with four laps remaining when his car shut down while running in second place. This dramatically narrowed his Drivers’ Championship lead. Hamilton now sits 41 points behind Antonelli in the standings, with Russell closing to within 50 points.
According to Sky Sports, The result also created the first all-British podium in Formula 1 since 1968, with Hamilton, Russell, and Norris occupying the top three spots.
At 41 years old, Hamilton became the oldest Formula One race winner since 1970. “To the fans,” he said after taking the chequered flag, “thank you for continuing to remind me who I am.”
The Ferrari dream is very much alive.
