Elye Wahi’s visa issues have been resolved and the striker has now received the necessary authorisation to enter Canada.

Ivorian striker Elye Wahi, who is under investigation for suspected betting offenses, has been permitted entry into Canada for Ivory Coast’s World Cup match against Germany, Yankee Scores reports.

Previously, the federation claimed that the player, 23, could not make it to Canada due to lack of permissions, however, on Thursday they announced the permissions had been received.

Wahi featured in the 1-0 victory over Ecuador in Philadelphia on Monday. Ivory Coast will play against Germany on Saturday in Toronto, which will be the second match of the tournament for the Elephants.

A spokesperson for Immigration Minister of Canada, Taous Ait refused to comment on the issue because authorization is needed from the concerned person, according to ESPN.

According to the French soccer league, there were a high number of bets made worldwide regarding Wahi receiving a yellow card during the match played by Nice on May 17.

Bettors observed something fishy regarding the bets placed on Wahi’s receiving a yellow card in the 0-0 draw match between Nice and Metz, where Wahi received a yellow card.

It is reported that the French league informed the police, gambling authority, and the French soccer federation about the above incident.

Asked whether Wahi was questioned by police, the Marseille prosecutor’s office told The Associated Press “a 23-year-old professional football player, competing in France’s Ligue 1 championship, was arrested on May 29, 2026, as part of their investigation.”

Wahi joined Nice on loan from Frankfurt in January and scored nine goals in 18 games in all competitions, helping the team reach the French Cup final.
