Five-star wide receiver Eric McFarland III has chosen Texas A&M as his destination. He announced his choice on Sunday in a live ceremony on the CBS Sports College Football YouTube channel. Rated as ESPN’s No. 3 wide receiver and No. 17 overall recruit in the 2027 cycle, McFarland chose the Aggies over final contenders Georgia and Florida. Ohio State and USC were also in the mix earlier in his recruitment.
Who’s this McFarland guy?
McFarland is a 5-foot-8, 180-pound pass catcher out of IMG Academy in Florida. McFarland was in the class of 2028 but reclassified to 2027.
He had 29 receptions for 595 yards and 11 touchdowns as a sophomore, earning him Offensive MVP honours at the 2026 Polynesian Bowl. Don’t be fooled by his size, Rivals Director of Scouting Charles Power calls the player a scoring threat every time he touches the ball with 4.3 to 4.4 speed and elite quickness in tight spaces.

Why A&M Won
Relationships and a clear development plan were the deciding factor. McFarland made multiple trips to College Station, and the development of transfer receivers KC Concepcion and Mario Craver was a major selling point for the Aggies
“I really liked what they did with KC and Mario last year,” he told ESPN. “Mario is about the same size as me”. He also credited the entire staff telling Rivals, “I feel like I’m a game-changer so I can be a big part of that”
A Class for the Record Books
McFarland is the sixth five-star commitment in Texas A&M’s 2027 class. If all six sign in December, the Aggies will set a record for five-star additions in the ESPN rankings era since 2006, surpassing Alabama’s 2014 class, per ESPN.
Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko, who led the Aggies to their first-ever College Football Playoff appearance last season, has now put together back-to-back top-10 recruiting classes. The Aggies still have one five-star cornerback to announce in Joshua Dobson and may not be done.
