Gansey helped build the Cavs into a 52-win beast, and now he takes over a Philly roster loaded with Embiid, George, and Maxy, Yankee Scores reports…
Cleveland Cavaliers General Manager Mike Gansey has accepted a multi-year offer from Philadelphia 76ers, to become their new president of basketball operations.
The Executive Shakeup
The 43-year-old Gansey will replace Daryl Morey, after the latter’s separation from 76ers.
In the process of looking for the team’s future president of basketball operations, Bob Myers of Golden State Warriors, whose organization recently clinched its fourth title and is currently serving as President of Sports for the Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, will take an active part. It was him who oversaw the search and negotiations between Gansey and ownership of the team.
Other Candidate
In addition to Gansey, the finalists for the position of Philadelphia 76ers’ president of basketball operations were Nick U’Ren, general manager and president of basketball operations for Phoenix Mercury.
According to sources, Gansey and U’Ren had several talks with the management of Philadelphia 76ers’ last week in the east coast before choosing their candidate.
Before becoming GM and eventually president of basketball operations for the team, Nick U’Ren served as an assistant general manager with the Golden State Warriors and worked directly with Bob Myers during his tenure.
Prior to his position with Cleveland Cavaliers, Gansey, along with Koby Altman, who is currently serving as Cavaliers’ president of basketball operations, helped build a competitive roster and led Cavaliers to the Eastern Conference Finals by trading guard Darius Garland to LA Clippers for James Harden after a 52-win season.
The Northeast Ohio Roots
Being born in Northeast Ohio, Gansey played collegiately at West Virginia, receiving first-team All-Big East honors. Prior to joining Cleveland Cavaliers, Gansey worked as a general manager for Cleveland Charge in the NBA G League.
