76ers Announce Exit of President Daryl Morey
According to Josh Harris, the managing partner of the 76ers, the news was released to the public on Tuesday evening.
“I have a tremendous amount of respect for Daryl personally and professionally, and I’m grateful for his contributions over the last six seasons,” Harris said. “After speaking with Daryl, we determined that it was time for a fresh start.”
Search for New Basketball Operations Head
Bob Myers, the president of sports with Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, will be leading the hunt for the new head of basketball operations with the 76ers. Myers, who has won four championship rings with the Golden State Warriors as their president of basketball operations, will be evaluating the existing basketball department staff members before hiring a new leader of the basketball department.
“I know how much the 76ers mean to the City of Philadelphia, and it’s important we find the right leader to shape the future of this team,” Myers said in the statement. “The process will start immediately, and we will be thorough and deliberate in our evaluations. I believe this is a destination for top talent across the league and look forward to solidifying our infrastructure moving forward.”
Over the last six years, Daryl Morey steered the 76ers to five playoff games and a total of 270 victories against 212 defeats. However, the team has never progressed beyond the second round of the playoffs under Morey and have not been to the conference finals since 2001.
“To our fans, your frustration and disappointment are understandable and warranted,” Harris said. “We have fallen well short of our own expectations and failed to deliver in the way this city deserves. That bothers me deeply and I have confidence in Bob to establish a path forward for our franchise.”
