The timing of the remarks is significant. Curry is in the final year of his current deal, a $62.5 million contract in his 18th season with the franchise and he becomes eligible to sign an extension worth up to two years and $136.7 million on August 29. Sources around the team and the league are optimistic a new deal will be reached between both sides.
Steph Curry averaged averaged 26.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game in 43 games in the 2025/2026 season, and the lack of a reliable second option has caused speculation among the fans with some even asking Curry to request for a trade if the team cannot bring in another superstar
Golden state was also among the teams in line to get LeBron James’ signature after Draymond Green initially forfeited his player option deal but James opted to sign for the Philadelphia 76ers.
“Ultimately it’s his call, his decision, whether that’s allowing his contract to run out and move on,” Dunleavy said, according to ESPN “If he comes to me and wants to be moved, Joe [Lacob] and I will talk it through. We wouldn’t love it. But he’s earned the right to do what he wants. But as far as the messaging or any idea that he’d be anywhere else, that’s not a thing we’re looking at or he’s looking at.”
