After delivering consecutive La Liga titles and an unforgettable debut treble, Flick says he’s in ‘the right place’; Yankee Scores reports…
Barcelona boss Hansi Flick has signed a new contract with the Spanish giants that will see him stay with the club until 2028 after leading Barça to two successive La Liga titles.
The Details of the Deal
Flick had already signed a contract that kept him with the club until 2027, but he has now added another year and an option to remain with the Catalan giants until 2029.
“I am happy about this,” Flick said. “We can go until 2028 and then we see; if everything is right, we make the decision to go one year more.
“The club has the right, I have the right. It’s a really good deal. I know that I am in the right place here.”
During his first season as Barça boss, the 61-year-old coached his side to a treble comprising La Liga, Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup.
For the current season, the Blaugrana have also managed to win La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup although they lost in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey to Atletico Madrid.
The Final Frontier
It is only in the Champions League that Flick has not succeeded at Barcelona, failing to take his side to a final since 2015 when they beat Juventus in Berlin.
For the past two seasons, Barça lost to Inter Milan in the semis while this year they were knocked out of the competition by Atletico Madrid in the quarter-final.
“[The new contract] a big commitment for us to work harder, harder than this season, to try and reach the best level with the team and to win titles,” Flick added.
“This is normal for Barcelona and I know everyone has this amazing dream to win the Champions League. We tried. We try it again.”
The Pedigree of a Winner
Prior to joining Barcelona, Flick has been the manager of both the German national team and Bayern Munich. Before that, he worked as an assistant to Joachim Low in the German national setup when they won the World Cup in 2014.
