Steve Kerr is staying, but his bench is getting a major facelift. Can Warriors find the right mix to get back to the playoffs in 2027? Yankee Scores has the full coaching breakdown!

Despite the return of Steve Kerr to the head-coaching position, it seems that some changes will be coming into the coaching staff of the Golden State Warriors.

The Departure of Key Lieutenants

The team plans to go its separate way with its leading assistants, Terry Stotts and Jerry Stackhouse, whose contracts will expire at the end of this season.

Terry Stotts has spent the last two years as the leading assistant coach under Steve Kerr and the offense coordinator for the Golden State Warriors.

In all his years, Stotts has accumulated over 30 years of coaching experience and even served as the head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers for nine seasons. Near the end of the regular season, Stotts informed Kerr about his decision not to continue working next season.

“I enjoyed my time with Steve, the staff and players,” Stotts said. “My two years there were fulfilling. Nothing but well-wishes.”

Stackhouse played under Kerr for two years before moving to another job in basketball.

Before joining the Warriors, Stackhouse had been the head coach of Vanderbilt for five seasons. It is believed that he is now looking for coaching opportunities with other teams.

In recent times, Warriors forward Draymond Green suggested that Stackhouse was an ideal person for the North Carolina head coaching post before Malone was appointed as their new coach.

Staff Transitions

As far as the Warriors’ staff goes, another coach who left the staff in January to take up another opportunity is Chris DeMarco.

As DeMarco left the Warriors staff to join the New York Liberty as their head coach, Kris Weems, another long-time assistant coach, is expected to be retained by the Warriors.

The Search for “New Blood”

The Warriors have only started their quest for replacements for Stotts and Stackhouse, reports from within the league reveal. One such name being considered is Willie Green, who served as head coach for the New Orleans Pelicans.

Green made his coaching debut in the NBA when he joined the Warriors as an assistant in 2016, spending three years with the team, all alongside Kerr, with whom he built a close rapport.

Last week, Kerr, who had been weighing the option of walking away from the Warriors, opted to stay for two years on a deal that will make him the highest-paid coach in the NBA.

After a season filled with injury struggles, the Warriors managed to win 37 games, but they still failed to reach the playoffs via the play-in tournament.

During negotiations after the season, the Warriors’ management indicated that change was necessary for Kerr.
