Victor Wembanyama’s return gave San Antonio the spark they needed, but the bigger picture tells an even more compelling story, YankeeSports reports.

Spurs strengthen their position

The French star produced a dominant display with 32 points, 12 rebounds, eight assists and three blocks as the Spurs overcame the Charlotte Hornets 115-102. His influence was immediate, scoring 18 points in the first half and reminding fans why his absence against Denver had been so costly.

San Antonio have now won 17 of their last 19 games, tightening their grip on second place in the Western Conference. At 49-18, they remain three games behind leaders Oklahoma City while holding a comfortable cushion over third-placed Houston.

Wembanyama’s growing impact

The 20-year-old showcased his flair with a highlight moment in the second quarter, recovering from a missed alley-oop to slam home a follow-up dunk. He shot 13-for-24 from the field and 5-for-10 from three-point range, continuing his hot streak from deep. Over his last five games, he has connected on 46.9% of his three-point attempts.

Hornets’ brief fightback

Charlotte managed a short-lived lead at 13-10 thanks to LaMelo Ball’s long-range effort, but Julian Champagne quickly levelled the score and the Spurs never trailed again. Miles Bridges contributed 22 points, rookie Kon Knueppel added 20, and Ball finished with 17, yet the Hornets’ momentum faded after winning eight of their previous ten.

Homestand wrapped up

San Antonio closed their longest homestand with a 5-1 record, their only defeat coming against Denver when Wembanyama sat out with a sore calf. His return underlined his growing influence as the Spurs continue their push toward the postseason.

What’s next

The Hornets will look to regroup when they host Miami on Tuesday night, while the Spurs head west to face the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday in what promises to be another test of their rising form.
