Despite a 32-point effort from Anthony Edwards, the Wolves couldn’t crack the ‘Wemby Wall’ in the paint. With Game 4 looming on Sunday, can the Timberwolves find their shooting touch, or is San Antonio pulling away? Yankee Scores has the details.

The Spurs got the best performance from Victor Wembanyama once more as he scored 39 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, helping his team beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 115-108 and go up 2-1 in their NBA playoffs second round series on Friday.

The Wemby Effect

Wembanyama had an impressive performance from the field, making 13 out of 18 shots, and also made 10 out of 12 from the free-throw line, along with blocking five shots and guarding the paint. The Spurs won their second consecutive game after the opening defeat.

“It was like holding the ship together. We had a lead. We didn’t need to rush. We needed to be consistent,” Wembanyama said.

Support System

De’Aaron Fox recorded 17 points, whereas Stephon Castle contributed 13 points and 12 assists.

He ended the match with a plus-17 performance rating for the Spurs.

Wolfpack Resistance

Anthony Edwards had 32 points and 14 rebounds, and Naz Reid had 18 points and nine rebounds for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Wolves’ defense did help keep them in the game despite their poor first-quarter performance. Their inability to defend the perimeter allowed the Spurs to make six three-pointers out of ten attempts during the crucial third quarter.

The Timberwolves will now have home-court advantage for Game 4, scheduled for Sunday night, followed by Game 5 in San Antonio on Tuesday.

Minnesota’s Jaden McDaniels fouled Wembanyama for the fifth time with 6:18 left, trimming the deficit to 99-98 after two free throws. However, San Antonio never surrendered its lead in the second half nor did it lead by more than double d

“I went in the locker room and told the guys we had a bunch of great looks,” Edwards said. “If we make our shots, we win this game.”

It was an extremely tough start for Minnesota, which scored nothing in its first 12 attempts and then managed to get points only from Gobert’s putback with 6:52 elapsed. However, unlike the game where the team lost 133-95 at home in the second match on Wednesday, Minnesota proved itself a capable defender to offset the bad shooting.

The Wolves’ victory was secured by Edwards’ basket right before halftime, and McDaniels also got a point thanks to a shot from the wings, making the first half end in 51-51.

Key Stat

The presence of Wembanyama prevented McDaniels and Julius Randle from getting into the zone for close-range shots, as they combined 8 of 34.

“I went in the locker room and told the guys we had a bunch of great looks,” Edwards said. “If we make our shots, we win this game.”
