Arizona Cardinals’ starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett took part in the first day of practice at training camp on Thursday as he continues negotiations about his new contract this season.
In fact, Brissett, who didn’t practice voluntarily in the offseason for the Cardinals and held out from mandatory minicamp in June, practiced on Thursday along with the rest of the Cardinals’ quarterbacks, which included Gardner Minshew, Carson Beck, and Kedon Slovis.
Each time the quarterbacks rotated in one drill, Brissett did it last as he got used to it, per ESPN.
Just as the first-year head coach of the Cardinals Mike LaFleur said he would.
Speaking at his pre-practice press-conference on Thursday, LaFleur said that Brissett would be practicing today. When asked why exactly Brissett decided to practice today and not all other days of the offseason, LaFleur was brief.
“I mean, he’s here,” LaFleur said. “He’s under contract and it’s the first day of practice.”
LaFleur said talks with Brissett are “still ongoing.” He is scheduled to make a base salary of $4.88 million, including $1.5 million guaranteed, and can make up to $5.39 million through potential incentives.
With Brissett back on the field, LaFleur said the plan is to get Brissett up to speed on how Arizona will operate this season, on the cadence, with the formations, with the Cardinals’ no-huddle package, with their pass game, with their run game — essentially, everything.
