Urban Meyer’s time with the Jacksonville Jaguars has officially closed another chapter, but not in the manner he anticipated. Yankee Scores reports.
According to reports, an independent arbiter ruled against the former head coach in his grievance, confirming the team fired him with cause and avoiding a $30 million payout tied to the remaining four years of his contract.
Arbiter’s Decision
Urban Meyer who was fired by the Jaguars on Dec. 16, 2021, will not receive a payout for the final years of his deal. According to reports, the arbiter sided with the Jaguars, who argued Meyer’s conduct justified termination.
Meyer’s Controversial Tenure
Meyer lasted just 11 months in Jacksonville, compiling a 2‑11 record while drawing criticism for multiple off‑field incidents. Allegations included kicker Josh Lambo’s claim that Meyer kicked him during warmups before a practice during the week of the final preseason game, as well as viral videos of Meyer at an Ohio bar with a woman who was not his wife.

Legal Fallout
Lambo filed a lawsuit in 2022 against both the Jaguars and Meyers, alleging a hostile work environment, though he later dismissed claims against the Jaguars on Feb. 20, 2026. His case against Meyer remains active, with a trial set for August 3.
Meyer’s tenure also drew scrutiny for staff hires, including Chris Boyle, who resigned after accusations of racist remarks at Iowa.
Jaguars Move Forward
The ruling closes a costly dispute for Jacksonville, ensuring the franchise avoids a massive financial hit. For Meyer, the decision underscores the fallout from one of the shortest and most controversial coaching stints in NFL history.
