Chelsea are in talks over the signing of Brighton forward Danny Welbeck, Yankee Scores reports.
The 35-year-old player is interested in joining Chelsea and there is hope from the club’s end that the transfer could go through.
Chelsea are seeking experience in view of the realization that there is need for a “tweak” in their system of signing youngsters – according to Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali in April – and Welbeck would fit the bill nicely.
Welbeck bagged a career-best of 13 goals in 37 league appearances for Brighton in last season while he has 51 goals in 201 appearances since joining from Watford in 2020.
There was no immediate reaction from Brighton, per BBC Sport.
Welbeck renewed his one-year deal in March, with the existing contract set to expire in 2026-27 season.

The futures of some Chelsea strikers are not known and Joao Pedro is expected to be Chelsea’s number one striker.
In addition, the English club have also signed Liam Delap, Emmanuel Emegha, Marc Guiu and Nicolas Jackson.
According to reports, Guiu is available for both a transfer move and a loan and Chelsea will sell him for about £25 million.
Jackson, who rejoined Chelsea from his loan spell with Bayern Munich, was supposed to continue at Chelsea but he is now willing to leave due to interest shown by Aston Villa.
Delap was excited to play under the management of Xabi Alonso but a year after joining Chelsea through a £30 million move from Ipswich, he seems like he is on his way out.
The future of the Dutch striker Emegha remains uncertain even though he has joined Chelsea from Strasbourg (a club that is owned by the same entity).
Chelsea have signed Morgan Rogers who joins the club as the most expensive signing in club’s history (£117 million), Marco Palestra and are close to signing Maxence Lacroix this summer.
