Chelsea are interested in bringing in Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez following their contact with his representatives.
The 33-year-old player is believed to be available to make a move away from Villa after the club signed Japan’s goalkeeper Zion Suzuki from Parma for around £30m in an early September deal.
Transfer Negotiations
It would mark yet another transaction between Chelsea and Villa as the former club bought forward Morgan Rogers from the latter in a transfer worth a club-record £117m while Alejando Garnacho went in the opposite direction on a loan basis.
Forward Nicolas Jackson, valued at around £65m, might also become a member of Villa where he would be able to work together with his previous coach Unai Emery.
Both the clubs have already done business with each other as they have previously made a deal that was called “PSR swap”. That resulted in a defender Ian Maatsen becoming a member of Villa while Omari Kellyman, now playing at Strasbourg, became a member of Chelsea.
Earlier in the transfer window, Juventus had tried to recruit Martinez but that deal eventually collapsed due to concerns about his finger injury, per BBC Sport.
Instead, the Italian team managed to sign Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario on loan.
This interest in acquiring Martinez comes as Chelsea have been having problems with their goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.
Alonso Addresses Goalkeeping Concerns
Robert, being the number one keeper at Chelsea, was outdone by his near post shot from Josh King in the first Premier League game against Fulham.
Later, he spilled another ball to a dangerous position and Gonzalo Garcia scored. Though, Chelsea won 3-2 at Craven Cottage.
Chelsea will play against Luton Town in the Carabao Cup soon. The head coach of Chelsea, Xabi Alonso, said Mike Penders, Chelsea’s number two goalkeeper, would play in that game on Thursday.
Mike Penders came in after an impressive loan spell at Strasbourg.
