Spurs manager Roberto de Zerbi wishes English defender Djed Spence remain with the club amidst the uncertainty regarding his future, Yankee Scores reports.
The 25-year-old signed a long-term contract with the club last season but is currently being rumored to be linked with a move to Inter Milan and Everton.
“The Italian manager has insisted that he sees the defender as key to his plans despite the added competition for the role following the busy summer transfer window for the club,” the report adds.
According to Transfermarkt, Spurs have already spent a record £237m during this summer transfer window.”
“I repeat what I said to Djed, and to Lucas [Bergvall],” De Zerbi said, referencing comments he made about the in-demand Sweden midfielder a day earlier.
“I would like you to stay if you want to stay. If you don’t want to stay, if you want to leave, then you have to leave.”
Spence was involved in 23 out of 30 matches that he played in the Premier League in his debut season, where Tottenham finished at 17th spot for the second consecutive time.
Pedro Porro, who won the World Cup with Spain, holds the right back position that Spence likes at Tottenham.
De Zerbi considers Porro to be “the best in the world.”
