A fresh trial kicks off at San Isidro. Seven healthcare professionals face jail terms of up to 25 years for negligent treatment that was blamed by prosecutors for the death of soccer legend Diego Maradona in 2020. Yankee Scores reports

A fresh trial for the murder of legendary football star Diego Maradona is set to begin on Tuesday. Maradona passed away when he was 60 years old due to heart disease.

The 2025 Mistrial: Why the First Case Collapsed

The first trial in May 2025 collapsed since one of the three presiding judges permitted the recording of proceedings in court without authorization for a documentary film.

Theatre of Horror”: The Case Against the Medical Team

The doctors attending Maradona are blamed for their failure to provide adequate medical services. In total, seven individuals will face trial for murder while there were indications of premeditation. However, the accused reject the accusations and may serve eight to 25 years in jail if convicted.

Maradona was recuperating at his residence in Tigre, Buenos Aires province, following his brain hemorrhage operation that month.

Medical Findings: The Autopsy and Expert Panel

The prosecutors consider the death a culpable homicide. It is comparable to involuntary manslaughter. The accused were aware of Maradona’s deteriorating health and yet failed to do anything necessary to safeguard his life.

Maradona’s heart disease resulted in acute pulmonary edema, implying that there was fluid in his lungs, according to an initial autopsy.

The Defense & Stakes: Potential 25-Year Sentences

In addition, a panel of medical professionals asked by the prosecutors to assess the circumstances surrounding Maradona’s death stated that his care was inadequate and risky. Furthermore, Maradona stood a better probability of survival if the doctors had provided proper care in an appropriate medical facility.
