There are allegations of tampering on the part of Inter Miami after signing Brazilian midfielder Casemiro, according to Major League Soccer, Yankee Scores reports.
Miami made the announcement on Wednesday that the 34-year-old, who played his last game for Manchester United at the end of the previous season, will sign a contract until the end of the 2027 season in MLS and have an extension until June 2029.
But almost immediately, the MLS issued a statement stating that it is “reviewing a tampering allegation” against the team.
“The league is gathering all relevant information and will refrain from further comment until the review is complete,” it added.
“While Inter Miami CF and the LA Galaxy have reached a settlement for the discovery priority [first rights] to sign Casemiro, the terms will be released upon conclusion of the tampering investigation.”
BBC Sport reported that this is related to the discovery rights of Casemiro, a rule of the MLS that gives one particular club the right of first refusal in case the player wants to play for them.
At a time, a club may include up to five players in its discovery list and can make changes whenever it wants.
Los Angeles Galaxy possessed the discovery rights for Casemiro, but in making the announcement regarding the signing of the player, Inter Miami declared that they bought the discovery rights from Los Angeles Galaxy.
