Mateus Fernandes’ transfer from West Ham to Tottenham Hotspur has been completed, Yankee Scores reports.
The fee is understood to be £85m, smashing the club’s transfer record of £65m paid for Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth in August 2024.
Yankee Scores had reported Spurs’ resolve to splash a record fee on the Portuguese midfielder.

Fernandes may not be record-signing for long though, with Newcastle agreeing a deal for Sandro Tonali worth up to £100m, per Skysports.
Manchester United were also strong suitors for Fernandes, but the Red Devils will only buy players at the right valuation and who genuinely want to play for the club – and his preference was not clear throughout the process.
Sky Sports News understands Spurs were desperate to win the race for Fernandes and would have matched any offer United made for the player.
In the end the £85m that Spurs were prepared to pay for Fernandes was too much for United.
Spurs missed out on a number of key targets last summer – one of which was Bryan Mbeumo who went to United – which has helped the hierarchy’s desire to land a statement signing in this window.
West Ham’s decision-makers believe that Fernandes was one of the best young players in the Premier League last season and has the potential to reach the level of Declan Rice, who was sold to Arsenal for £105m in 2023.
