FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono has spoken for the first time about the tragic death of CD Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel, following a tragic collision on the pitch.
A 30-year-old Miguel succumbed to a cardiac arrest from an on-field collision in a Spanish second-division match, his club said Tuesday.

The forward was challenging for the ball around the midfield area when the onrushing goalkeeper struck him with his knee on the chest.
De Miguel crashed onto the pitch while Owono was shown a straight red, as medics made frantic efforts to save the situation.
The match was abandoned right after the incident as it was gathered that Miguel’s pulse was restored as he was rushed to the hospital, Dario AS reports.
Hours later, CD Tenerife broke the tragic news of the passing of their striker who could not survive the collision. The statement reads:
“There are no words of comfort. There is absolutely nothing that can alleviate this profound sense of sorrow.
“We stand with his devastated family, his loved ones, and the entire Tenerife community.”
Camera had shown Owono walking away from the incident as he was sent off, with fans citing that the tackle was intentional.
The Equatorial Guinean shot-stopper has disclosed that he was with the medics as efforts were made to resucitate him. He further disclosed that efforts were made to locate a hospital that had oxygen.
He said:
“I haven’t slept since yesterday. I cried my eyes out thinking about the whole incident. What happened was never intentional.
“I never imagined it would come to this. I can say I am deeply sorry, but I know that won’t bring back the person we lost.
“On my Instagram, people are calling me a murderer and a killer. The same thing is happening on X and Facebook. I can’t even face my family or my children.
“I still can’t believe this has happened. I wish I could turn back the clock. I am truly sorry. I never did it on purpose. May his soul rest in perfect peace.
“I stayed with them throughout yesterday as we searched for a hospital that had oxygen, but unfortunately, he passed away this morning.
“I will not play football for one month as a mark of respect for him. Until we meet again.”
