Eddie Howe has quit his position as Newcastle United manager, Yankee Scores reports.
This move comes after discussions held with the club’s officials over the past two days, even though Eddie Howe began the process of leaving several weeks back.
During this period, Howe continued with preparations of the Newcastle team for the beginning of the season when they will play Liverpool on August 23.
Newcastle have experienced a tough summer season after selling of Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon, and still have uncertainties with regard to their captain, Bruno Guimaraes, who is wanted by Arsenal.
This sale played a role in the decision made by Howe in consideration of the squad that the team might be starting the season with. Newcastle sold their striker Alexander Isak for a British record £125m to Liverpool last summer.
For some months, Howe has been reviewing his experiences at Newcastle and thought that he could push the club forward in the coming season only if Newcastle recruits well during the summer.
Newcastle have signed 20-year-old winger Bazoumana Toure from Hoffenheim for £42m, 18-year-old midfielder Sean Steur from Ajax for £23m, and 20-year-old goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen from Reims for £18.5m.
However, in recent times, Newcastle seemed to lose their chance to acquire Johan Manzambi as he decided to move to Aston Villa – a major blow for Howe and the club, per Skysports.
Howe has been one of Newcastle’s greatest managers, having won the League Cup to put an end to the 70-year long wait for a silverware as well as having taken the team to the Champions League twice after achieving a top five finish in the Premier League.
Last season, they made progress in the Champions League further than they had previously done.
